Types of WC Suite

A WC suite consists of a cistern and a pan. The cistern can be low or high level, joined by a flush pipe to the pan, or close coupled with a direct connection. Modern suites are designed to use less water than old ones, 7ltrs rather than 9ltrs. When positioning a WC suite, allow for a least 530 mm of space in front of the pan, and for about 760mm overall space from side to side.Types of Cistern:Cisterns are made of plastic or vitreous china (ceramic), and screwed to the wall from inside, through the back. The flushing control is a central pushbutton or a side lever (fitted to right or left of the cistern). For the flushing action to be correct, the cistern must be at the height given by the manufacturer, usually with the base about 600mm above the floor. Water flow into the cistern is controlled by a ball valve. A cistern fed from a cold-water storage system is quieter than one fed from the mains. Most cisterns still have a 9ltr flush, the dual-flush type provides 4.5 or 9ltr. Water regulations now restrict the capacity of newly installed cisterns.Standard Cistern:Direct action system at a low level is the standard option. They can also be used at high level, and are quieter than the chain pull type. If a suite is converted from high to low level, the standard size cistern, about 200mm from front to back, is too deep to go behind the plan, so a slim-line type is needed. Chelsea Plumbers know all appliances.Slim-line Cistern:These are the same size as a standard cistern from side to side but as little as 115mm from front to back. However, it still provides a full flush. It can be concealed behind a panel.Dual-Flush Type:A variation on the direct action cistern is the dual-flush type, which provides either, a water saving small flush or a double sized flush for solid waste. A Chelsea Plumber is trained to install WCs.Low-level Suite:The cistern is either linked to the plan by a short flush pipe or is close coupled, with both joined together in one unit.
