Controls for Heating
There are many ways of controlling the central heating fitted in your home. Not only for its temperature but also when and where it operates. For this there are thermostatic, time and zone control devices. The ultimate goal is to make the system very economical and efficient as the cost of fuel rises. Chelsea Plumbers fit heating control devices. Here are some examples:Room Thermostat:A manually or digitally operated thermostat. This device switches the heating on and off in accordance with the temperature you select. Mostly fitted in the living room or maybe a hall, it assumes that a rise or drop in temperature in its vicinity will be mirrored by the same rise or drop throughout the house. These are available in wired or wireless digital versions.Thermostatic Radiator Valves:The heat of a radiator can be adjusted by opening or closing a manual radiator valve. A much more efficient way is to fit a thermostatic valve or even better are programmable thermostatic valves which will maintain the desired temperature at set times of the day. A Chelsea Plumber can fit TRVs.Timers and Programmers:A simple time switch will turn the system on and off at preset times, but a programmer allows independent operation of the heating and hot water circuits.Thermostats for Cylinders:The water temperature required to heat a radiator is much higher than that needed at the taps (82C not 60C) and the cylinder thermostat prevents overheating of the hot water supply. The thermostat works by closing off the flow to the heat exchanger as the temperature rises, then, opens up when the temperature falls.Zone Controlling Valves:The zone control valve is driven by an electric motor. Also known as a zone or mid-position valve it can close off parts of a system at a very specific time or times of the day. This is good in a large home, where you would not want to heat every bedroom on upper floors in the daytime, and is a required in fitted systems that need to heat more than 150 m?.
